바이올린 소나타 a단조, 작품 27의 2번

이 곡은 1922년
벨기에 바이올리니스트 외젠 이자이의 작품으로,
동료 바이올리니스트이자
이자이의 절친한 동료였던
자크 티보에게 선물로 주었다.

티보는 마치 종교적인 의식처럼
매일 바흐의 무반주 파르티타 E장조로
연습을 시작했다.

이자이는 이 곡에 집착이라고 할 만큼 매료되었고
바흐에 사로잡힌 마음을 자신만의
'무반주 바이올린 소타나 6곡 모음집'을
작곡하기 시작했다.

하지만
바흐 음악의 강력한 영향력을 피할 수 없는
자신의 무능함 때문에
전체적인 방향이 빗나가고 있다는 사실을
인정하기에 이르렀다.

결국 그는 바흐의 곡을
그대로 자신의 곡에 삽입하는 방법으로
이런 어려움을 극복했다.

This piece composed in 1922
by Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe was dedicated
as a gift to his close friend
and fellow violinist Jacques Thibaud.

Thibaud had a ritual of beginning his daily practice
with Bach’s Partita in E major for solo violin
treating it almost like a religious ceremony.
(*August 15th)

Ysaÿe became deeply captivated almost obsessed with this piece
and inspired by his fascination with Bach
began composing his own set of six sonatas for solo violin.

However,
he eventually had to admit that
he could not escape the overwhelming influence
of Bach’s music.
He realized that the direction of his own composition
was being thrown off course
by his inability to break free from it.

In the end he overcame
this difficulty by directly incorporating parts
of Bach’s music into his own work.
