레오폴드 고도프스키는 폴란드계 미국인 작곡가이다.
거의 혼자 힘으로 그 자리까지 올라간 
엄청난 재능을 지닌 피아니스트였다.
그는 음악에 있어서 절충적인 취향을 가지고 있었다.

슈베르트, 쇼팽과 같은 낭만주의 작곡가들과
라모, 륄리와 같은 프랑스 바로크 거장들의 선율을
종종 자기 작품의 주제로 활용했다.

그는 독특하고 감상적인 선율을 선호했지만,
그의 지성은 언제나 빛을 발하고 있었기에
지나친 감상주의에는 빠지지 않을 수 있었다.

오늘 소개하는 이 곡은
1919년 8월에 30곡의 피아노 작품 모음집 중
한 곡으로 작곡되었지만,
야사 하이페츠의 편곡도 들어보시길...
바이올리니스트들의 앙코르 곡으로
사랑받고 있다.

Leopold Godowsky was
a Polish‑American composer
and a pianist of extraordinary talent,
who climbed to prominence
almost entirely on his own merits.

He had an eclectic taste in music,
often drawing thematic inspiration
for his works from Romantic composers
like Schubert and Chopin,
as well as from French Baroque masters
like Rameau and Lully.

Godowsky favored melodies that were
unique and emotive,
but his intellect always shone through
—never allowing him to slip
into excessive sentimentality.

The piece I want to introduce today
was composed in August 1919,
as part of a set of thirty piano pieces.

However,

Jascha Heifetz’s arrangement
—this piece has become
a beloved encore among violinists.
