메리 콜리지가 쓴 새를 묘사한,
비교적 알려지지 않은 시를 가져다
빛나는 합창곡을 만들었다.

'호수는 언덕 아래 푸르고 고요하다.
호수 위를 바라보니
새 한마리가 날아간다.
차고 고요한 강물 건너,
창백한 파란색 날개를 단 새 한 마리.
호수 위 하늘까지 파랗게 물든다.
내 아래 강물 또한
하늘처럼 파랗고 파랗다.
새가 지나가기 전 그 찰나의 순간,
새는 날아가며 자기 모습을 본다.'

September is the month

when blue birds begin to gather from the East.

 

Charles Villiers Stanford

took a relatively unknown poem about a bird,

written by Mary Coleridge,

and turned it into a radiant choral piece.

 

The lake lies blue and still below the hill.

Looking out across the lake,

a bird flies by.

Across the cold and quiet water,

a single bird with pale blue wings.

Even the sky above the lake turns blue.

And the river beneath me

is as blue—so deeply blue—as the sky.

In that fleeting moment before the bird passes,

it sees itself as it flies.
